Nashville to Little Rock.

Tonight I am just north of Little Rock Arkansas having my first ever Walmart camping experience. I tried a campground that was full. The day was rainy and very windy on the highway. Fortunately, I missed a tornado that crossed the interstate about an hour before I did. It left behind a swath of snapped trees and debris all over the road.  Fortunate that I get a late start!

Finally left Asheville!

First day on the road. I’ve stopped for the night just short of Nashville. Staying at a Tennessee welcome center. Somewhat eventful day as I had a flat tire on my tow vehicle.  Fortunately, I pulled off the highway quickly and stopped at a truck-stop as the air with escaping from the tire. The good news is I now know how to change the tire on my 4Runner which involves dropping the spare stowed underneath the rear of the car. I was fortunate to find a very nice guy at the Loves truck stop who plugged my tire, which had two holes in it. When I asked him how much I owed him, he said nothing. I gave him the money I had in my wallet, which is about $12 and he seemed quite grateful.

The adventure begins.

Last Sunday I moved out of my house in Asheville, NC and into my 15' teardrop camper, where I will live for the next three months.  Next week I'll be heading west to New Mexico which will be begin a large loop of the western US through NM, AZ, CA, OR, ID, WY, and SD.  My first stop will be in Roswell, NM for several days.  I have found several promising bike routes on "Ride with GPS" and I'm eager to get to the dessert where currently the weather is 40's during the nights and 70's during the days!  My trip for the next 3 months is largely unscripted, and I plan to dry camp on BLM land and National Forest land often.  My camper is a T@B 320 Boondock model which is outfitted with an expanded battery bank, solar panels and other systems designed to go "unplugged" in comfort. I'll update this page along the way.

My home for the next 3 months.
