Today I visited Saguaro National Park West. The park and all of Tucson is in the Sonoran desert which extends down into north west Mexico.
This area is home to the Saguaro (substitute a soft h for the g) cactus, which can live for more than 200 years and reach a height of over 30 feet tall. I did a 5 mile round-trip hike up into the mountains, which gave me a vast view of the desert floor, as well as flowering plants and cactus of all sorts. Afterwords, I went into Tucson to visit a bike shop to prepare for my ride up Mount Lemmon tomorrow.
How beautiful!
