More Sedona.

So much to see, and do in Sedona! Sunday I went for a nice road ride and saw some amazing sites along the way. Monday I moved campsites from the dispersed camping area on Forest Road 525 to Cave Springs Campground, which is in the Oak Creek area north of town. After waiting for my campsite I went and explored local swimming spots around the campground. Today I hiked Boynton Canyon Trail to Subway cave. Absolutely amazing scenery. I’d love to stay another day and mountain bike tomorrow but I’m in a shady spot at the campground, and will not be getting enough solar for the fridge, so I will be hitting the road to page Arizona and Glen Canyon recreation area tomorrow.

Sedona, day 2.

This terrain is made for mountain biking. Challenging natural rock stairways, slick rock and flowy ups and downs with majestic scenery all around. If I lived here I would definitely spend ally of time on the mtn bike.

Sedona!

I arrived early in Sedona to secure a campsite in the Coconino national forest. I dropped the camper and headed to town to get information. I hiked  Cathedral trail to Cathedral rock. The views and rock formations are spectacular!

Flagstaff.

I spent the last three days at Canyon Vista campground by Lake Mary south of Flagstaff. I completed a challenging ride around Mormon Lake, visited Walnut Canyon, national Monument, which has many historic indigenous dwellings, hiked  and explored downtown Flagstaff.

Flagstaff is situated at 7000 ft., is very clean and has great roads. It’s  a beautiful town with a dramatic mountain backdrop, several nearby lakes, grassy fields surrounded by high elevation pines, and has a very outdoorsy vibe. I am told that it is a sister city to Asheville and I see many similarities.

Last day in the Canyon.

Today was by foot.  I hiked the Bright Angel trail down to Plateau point. This was a 6.5-ish mile hike all down hill to an amazing view of the canyon and the Colorado river which was another 1500 feet below. The climb out ascended 3200 feet for a total of 13.3 miles. This was my last day at the Grand Canyon tomorrow I will head towards Flagstaff.

More Grand Canyon.

Yesterday I spent the day walking the rim trail to Grand Canyon Village, and then riding the three different shuttle buses around the park.

Today I rode from Tusayan into the park and about 20 miles of the desert view Road heading east. This part of the park is not very populated and has no facilities. It was a great ride with moderate climbing until the raindrops started. After turning around, I ran into hail and then a drenching rain back to Tusayan. That’s what I get for trying to outsmart the weather. Happy I was able to get the miles in.

Shenandoah - Day 5.

Big water today in Whiteoak Canyon!  Started with Dennis but we quickly got separated on Cedar Run Trail. We were both scrambling along the ...
