Palenque, Aqua Azul and Misol Ha.
Yesterday, felt like the longest day of my life. Up at 3 AM to be picked up by a van for a 20 hour excursion to Mayan ruins and waterfalls in the mountains in the northern part of Chiapas. The sites we visited were amazing. However, the van ride was pretty miserable. Up through winding mountain roads at high speeds in a cramped van with 13 other people. Along the way I was able to see some of the remote villages of Chiapas. These people are extremely poor and have few conveniences or luxuries. Electricity is sparse, plumbing as well probably. The gas stations consisted of plastic jugs, which had been filled in more industrialized areas and would then be sold by the jug. I would love to take a slow driving trip in this area to photograph the lifestyle of these people.
